What started as a conversation between two friends 5 months prior turned into a great 3 day event and three anglers out of all who entered will be qualifying for the KBF National Championship? We would like to thank the folks at Bonafide Kayaks, Yak Attack, KBF and TourneyX for their support and help before, during and after the event. A very special thanks also to all our sponsors for their donations and help along the way and we also must give a big thank you to the members and officers of the NJKBFC.
The Friday pre-fish saw many of our anglers on the water and settling into their campsite. The 7 PM get together was hampered by the on again off again heavy rain that would settle in overnight and find us all huddled under the Yak Attack tent for the 4:30 AM captains meeting and to pick up the amaizing Captains Bags everyone received. Fishing in August can be a challenge and we wanted to give our anglers the morning bite along with the evening bite and we all knew it would be a long day as many hit the water in the pouring rain at the 5 AM start time and the 7 PM ending time would seem endless in the heat of the day. By 11 AM the clouds started to brake and we were all happy with, The Day God Gave US..
For those that got out early the reward would be that first light bite and from there the day would be a challenge for many. The 1 PM brake was welcomed not only for a chance to regroup before the 3 PM restart but most important get our anglers off the water and some good home cooked food hot off the grill. Lunch was great and seeing everyone share fish tales and ideas for the afternoon session was a pleasant sight for all.The conversation was heavy for the afternoon session about fish yet to be landed.
We also are very thankful that our anglers stepped up and made the mid-day raffle a success and our charities will be able to do a little more from the anglers efforts. Many walked away with some great prizes and none of that would have been possible without the giving of our wonderful sponsors. As the day was winding down so were our anglers and by the 7 PM end time everyone was ready to enjoy the last hour of sunlight and share the day’s events among one another. The evening would be filled with, laughs and sharing some good food & beverages with friends.
Sunday 6 AM start to the Barbie Rod Division would find two lucky anglers ending the three day event with some great prizes and a new found respect for a 27 inch kid’s rod. Barbie always brings out the best in any angler. We would like to also give a shout out to Eddie for making the trip all the way from Maryland and also Robbie who came all the way up from South Carolina to fish with his son.
So the 2018 KBFNC Qualifier @ Swartswood Lake is in the books, congrats to 1st Richard, 2nd Albert, 3d Tom & Noriel for finding the biggest fish in the lake that day and for all their efforts and their wins. Our Barbie Rod Division winners, Eddie & Fred left very happy with some great prizes and the weekend was a great time for all that attended. So a big THANK YOU to all our anglers, sponsors and The Swartswood State Park Staff. If you looking for a fun nice place to fish for many types of freshwater fish and a great place to camp Swartswood makes that happen. See Ya Soon @ Another BRD Fishing Event....Tight Lines & FISH ON !!!
